Our History

The Bowie Project, a term coined by Pastor Paul Graham, lead Pastor, was born, Spring 2006, from the efforts of Pastor Melvyn Hayden, (Youth Pastor for Community Praise Center of Seventh-day Adventist (CPC), Dr. Naeem Newman, and a small group of families living in the Bowie area. This project stemmed from a bible study group that met out of Dr. Newman’s home on Sabbath evenings. Upon conferring with Pastor Hayden about positively impacting the Bowie community for the glory of God, Dr. Newman learned that it was part of Pastor Hayden’s responsibility, when he was hired, to start a third worship service for CPC, under the leadership of Senior Pastor, Henry M. Wright. From this humble beginning, a vision to evangelize the greater Bowie, MD community emerged.

November 2006, after much prayer, the group stepped out on faith and began meeting every Sabbath evening at the Bowie Gymnasium for about 3-4 months.  From the Bowie Gym site the Sabbath evening services moved in March 2007 to Bowie High School.  Attendance grew to a maximum of about 40-50 people.

After 5-6 months Pastor Hayden had to redirect his focus, the work took a dip, but Pastors Kelvin Mitchell and Ronnie Seneque kept the work going.  At this juncture the meetings returned to the homes of the core leadership team members.  After approximately 6-8 months of meeting in homes Pastor Hayden encouraged the group to step out on faith, and begin having Sabbath services again, at a larger venue.

It became clear to Pastor Hayden that a full-time worker was needed to give the work the attention necessary to grow and to build the confidence in the team who wanted to move forward, so he suggested to Pastor Wright that CPC hire Pastor Paul Graham to lead, and "The Bowie Project", was born.  Hitting the ground running Pastor Graham came in and facilitated two very successful worship services/vision casting meetings in September and October of 2008.  Both of these meetings yielded over 75 people coming out each time with an interest to support, and respond to the great commission.

On November 15, 2008 The Bowie project was formally launched, and at the initial worship service there was over 500 people in attendance.  Going forward the intent of this movement is to train, equip, and mobilize Seventh-day Adventist Christians to evangelize the Bowie community, and the greater southern portion of Prince George’s County.

Presently The Bowie Project worships out of Capital Christian Fellowship located at 10411 Greenbelt Road Lanham, MD 20706.  Come and experience what God is doing through His children that are willing to submit, serve, sacrifice, and obey.
